All children are expected to stay for lunch; the cost of which is included in the school fees.
At NPS, we are proud of the excellent standard of catering provided by Chartwells, one of the UK’s leading contract caterers for independent schools.
Our catering team, led by Jacqui Dunlop, aims to provide a range of tasty, nutritious meals offering a huge variety of choice and opportunities to try new flavours and combinations. All the food is cooked in-house, using local and organic produce where possible.
Children are encouraged to make their own choices and are encouraged to try new and unfamiliar foods . There is always a range of meals to accommodate individual tastes. In addition to the main meal options, there are baked potatoes with a variety of toppings, seasonal soup and an extensive salad bar. The staff are also more than happy to cater for any special dietary requirements by arrangement with parents.
Our menus have all been approved by a Chartwell’s nutritionist to ensure healthy combinations. The children can clearly see the various food groups on offer in order to make their choices. There are regular themed days where a range of new and exciting flavours can be sampled. We also offer traditional options and the ever popular Fish Friday. Main meals are always complemented by fresh vegetables, salads and a hot or cold dessert.
Children have access to water throughout the day and are encouraged to stay hydrated by using a water bottle. Milk and a selection of fruit are available at morning break. Sandwiches and juice are available for those attending late room after school. In the First Steps Nursery, morning toast is available to the children.
All children eat their lunch in the dining hall. Lunch is eaten under the supervision of teachers and catering staff and mealtimes are treated as an important social occasion.
In addition to providing a cooked lunch, the kitchen also provide packed lunches for trips and excursions.
Developing Table Manners
We encourage good manners, the correct use of a knife and fork and insist on a high standard of behaviour, as we feel this is a very important part of the children's social education.
We can cater for specific dietary needs. Our catering staff are trained to cater for children with allergies and religious dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and egg free. Our Catering Manager can be contacted if parents have any concerns over a child’s allergies. NPS is a nut free school.
The menus offered change weekly and provide a seasonal variety. Pupils have a regular input in the menus offered through regular meetings of the School Council.
